November 16th, 2007

For some reason I remember that two years ago today the most hyped video of all time premiered and Ty Evans & the Lakai team induced a month long boner on the collective skateboarding world.
I know the video itself gets a lot of hate, but I still watch it a lot... Carroll, Howard, the Royal Family, Lucas, Olson, and Pappalardo all had amazing parts. Nothing can really compare to this guy though.

Radio Television

Much like the riders themselves, the premiere and the release of the new $lave video was pretty under the radar, which is a nice surprise in this time of Hollywood blockbuster releases that are hugely disappointing*. When I first heard that the video was $8, I wasn't expecting much but the video weighs in at a healthy 45 minutes, and I have no problem saying it's the best video to come out all year, after Mind Field and Bonus Round. With stock footage sewn into the skate footage throughout the video, it has a distinct feel; think a little bit of AWS mixed with Zero circa Thrill Of It All. Everyone has a good part. My personal favorites were Pat Burke (who looks like he can barely stay on the board but in a good way), Jon Allie (one of my favorite guys to watch skate handrails), and Jon Goemann (who would have thought that the kid on Birdhouse would kill it so hard?). There's great music all the way through (lots of metal with some classic rock and rap thrown in). Only real problem I had was the lack of a Conhuir Lynn part, but otherwise this is one of the best videos I've seen in a while, and I definitely plan on buying this very soon.

*I'm looking at you, Flip.
